One-Gallon Santa Cruz Cypress #699

Santa Cruz Cypress, Hesperocyparis abramsiana, is a rare California native found naturally in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This species is known for its rich green foliage, strong aromatic scent, and vigorous upright growth. Compared to Sargent Cypress, Santa Cruz Cypress typically has slightly coarser foliage and a more robust, vertical habit, making it an exciting and distinctive bonsai candidate.

While still relatively uncommon in bonsai, Santa Cruz Cypress shows strong potential due to its resilience, ability to backbud with proper care, and natural tendency to develop interesting trunk movement over time. As it matures, the bark begins to gain subtle texture and character, adding to its long-term appeal as a bonsai subject.
