Florida Dogwood Flowering Bonsai Starter
Florida Dogwood (Cornus florida) is a deciduous flowering tree native to the eastern half of the United States and commonly planted as landscape trees. Largely unexplored as a bonsai subject, it has showy white flower clusters surrounded by 4 white bracts (appearing like petals). The leaf character is interesting, and the bark can become quite beautiful with age. The tree produces red drupes in summer/fall when the flowers are successfully pollinated.
The starter tree you will receive is in a 3.3" nursery container, with a trunk about 1/8-1/4", and from 12-36" of growth. May have 1-3 strong shoots. The main trunk has been previously gently wired and some light wire marks may be present, but will fade as the tree continues to grow. (wire already removed.) The tree has been in the container for 1 year, so it can be repotted or left for an additional year. We recommend repotting into a 1-gallon size container to continue trunk development.
