Donald Jower Wood-Fired Round #2
Donald Jower is a native of the San Francisco Bay area who currently resides in Castro Valley. He studied architecture and arts at Cal Poly and Cal State Hayward. Jower is semi-retired, enjoys completing ceramic projects, and currently specializes in wood-fired process. Donald uses a mixture of reclaimed commercial clays in interesting ways, and having studied in Japan, he has a grounding in Japanese aesthetic that has enabled him to create these artful pieces.
Wood fired kilns are 5-10 times as much work as a gas or electric kiln, but the process creates organic, natural, and interesting surface features that are difficult to achieve in any other way.
Note: Wood firing process does not allow for close control of the placement of "glaze" as the glaze is created during the firing process as a result of the movement of heat and ash. In some cases the interior of the vessels have "glaze" throughout; please refer to the images.
Interior Diameter 2.5", 1" deep.
