Blue Oak Bonsai #1017

These acorn-grown Blue Oaks (Quercus douglasii) are a distinctive California native species admired for their rugged character and beautiful blue-green foliage. Found throughout California's foothills and grasslands, Blue Oaks are well adapted to hot, dry summers and develop impressive bark and structure with age.

These oaks are native to Mediterranean climates and are best suited to areas with warm, dry summers and mild to cool winters. Once established, they are highly drought tolerant, though bonsai specimens should be watered regularly during the growing season. Blue Oaks are generally hardy in the landscape but should be protected from prolonged hard freezes when grown in containers.
