Black Hills Spruce Starters

Black Hills Spruce (Picea glauca var. densata) is a cold-hardy evergreen native to the Black Hills of South Dakota and surrounding regions. A naturally dense form of White Spruce, it is prized for its compact growth, short needles, and rugged character, making it an excellent candidate for bonsai development.

These starters offer early trunk development and branching structure, with rich green foliage that holds its color year-round. Adapted to harsh winters and mountain conditions, Black Hills Spruce is particularly well suited to growers in colder climates who want a species capable of developing impressive age and character over time.

These seedlings are in their second year, established in the small pots.
