Juniper "Basics" Bonsai Starters
The perfect "basics" starter plants! These Kishu junipers are perfect for so many things! (The botanical Latin name is Juniperus chinensis 'Kishu' or Juniperus chinensis Sargentii 'Kishu')
Perfect for:
- Teaching beginners classes
- Learning to wire young trees
The trunks are about 3/16"-1/4" diameter and they are 8-16" tall. We ship them in 3x9 Anderson Bands. They are 3 years old and ready for styling. Most of the trees have some movement in the first two inches above the nebari (root junction.)
Kishu are among the best junipers for bonsai, with tight delicate foliage that creates heavenly clouds almost by itself. The runners (strong central shoots) are used to make branches and trunks. Wood production is faster in hotter climates.
The photos are representative, and do not show the actual tree you will receive.
Our trees are healthy and vigorous - these are grown in 14 hours of direct summer sunlight! Our trees are all created in our own operation and are made specifically for bonsai use.

Eric and the team sent out some really nice looking stock. Nice thick trunks and some interesting bends in these guys. Recommend picking some up!
Maybe I had higher expectations. These are heathy trees but out of 3 I ended up with 3 at the smallest/ under the measurements given. All around 8” or under and with around 5/32nds trunk size. Also none have the mentioned movement near the soil line as mentioned. These are simply cuttings, some planted at angles, no bends etc. Very hard to believe these are 3 year old trees. A little disappointed honestly. Purchased because of the YouTube videos I saw but these don’t do them justice.

Thanks for your purchase and thanks for the review. Since you are not fully satisfied, we will go ahead and send you another set of plants. I've reviewed the stock we have in queue for orders and agree that they are on the small end, so I'll set those aside and grab a flat that's larger. As with any stock, there is natural variation in sizing.

Plants were excellent as before when I bought pines and junipers. Bought a dozen kishu this time. Strong growth, very good color and bushy. No insects. Grow bag quality as advertised. All arrived on time and no issues. This is why I buy from Bonsaify.
Plants were shipped securely and arrived in excellent condition. Very lush and healthy. Great for beginners who are getting a feel for bonsai.
