Japanese Black Pine Root-Over-Rock #472

Japanese black pine is one of the most iconic bonsai species, prized for its rugged bark, dark green needles, and predictable training response. This tree features the striking root-over-rock style, where powerful roots grip and cascade over the stone, creating a dramatic display of strength and resilience. Over time, the roots will fuse even more closely to the rock, emphasizing the sense of age and permanence.

With proper training, Japanese black pine develops strong taper, refined branching, and significantly reduced needle size.
